Vigils is a series of beautiful and closely observed elegies on the life of her late son Jonny. Malcolm Guite tells us, “Put the murmuring shell of these poems up to your ear and you will hear the sound of the sea, not just the ‘sea of troubles’, but the wider, deeper sea of God’s mystery and his mercy.” The writer, Sarah Akehurst, lives on Iona, and is an Oblate of Pluscarden Abbey.
